Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a major European University Medical Centre. Units of the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine and other academic institutions are embedded in the management of all major departments of the Cambridge University Hospitals.

    The Cambridge Biomedical Campus provides facilities and complementary expertise to allow genetic experts to continue Cambridge's pioneering lead in the science of evolution, heredity, genetics and genomics, following the Wellcome Trust Sanger Centre's work on sequencing the Human Genome and the earlier renowned progress of Darwin, Watson and Crick.

    The Campus is home to the University Department of Clinical Genetics and the Hospital provides a Regional Genetics Service to many health organisations in the area. Laboratories have recently been built on-site for University and for clinical use in the Addenbrooke's Treatment Centre.

    Biomedical research in Cambridge is underpinned by a unique tradition of atomic and molecular science.
