The Cambridge Biomedical Campus was formally launched on Thursday 19th November 2009 following receipt of outline planning permission for 215,000 sq m of expansion to the existing campus which is to include new biomedical research and education space.
Mark Chatham, Countryside commercial marketing director, addressed an array of distinguished guests in the lecture theatre of the existing Cancer Research UK facility on site, informing them of the opportunities and benefits that the new development will provide.
Mark was joined by Sir Keith Peters, Chairman of Cambridge University Health Partners, who highlighted Cambridge’s role as a key centre for innovation. He set out reasons why the forthcoming development was essential to ensure that Cambridge maintains and enhances in reputation in the future.
Dr Hugh Pelham, from the Medical Research Council, gave his perspective of an existing occupier on the Campus as well as detailing the MRC’s new £212m Laboratory of Molecular Biology currently under construction.
Jim Maneri, who had flown in from America for the event, represented Countryside’s joint venture partners Liberty Property Trust and gave a speech emphasising the recognition and awareness that Cambridge has had on the international stage as well as demonstrating what could be learnt from the successes and failures of American Science Parks.
The Campus Access Road and Cambridgeshire Guided Busway are both currently under construction and are due to open in August 2010.
